Okay, I am annoyed now. I can't make any changes to muh blogspot template! This is a disaster, considering how much time I've wast... um, spent profitably on this blog (hard to believe, but true). It's almost certainly some mistake of my own, though I can't quite see how that would be true. Still, I seem to be able to post, so everything's alright :-)

Today has been low-key on the football front, as I got in pretty late from Strange Fruit and decided a lie-in was more than necessary. After Italy's disaster, some of the lustre seems to have gone out of the World Cup :-( However, I did watch the Canadian Grand Prix. A Ferrari win, I'm pleased to say, though nothing anecdote-worthy. Again. My life is too dull to blog! 'Snot fair!

Oh. For some reason I haven't mentioned my scooter accident! I'd love to pretend it's because I haven't been able to rise from muh hospital bed, where I'm struggling with sitcom-style plastercasts, ropes and pulleys, but other than a few nasty grazes and a bit o' bruising, I'm fine. The bike is minorly scratched, but still works*. Note to self - self, avoid oil patches on corners in the rain.

On a related note, I need (well, have decided in the spirit of flighty wastefulness) to buy a new pushbike. But I don't know what I should be looking for! I seem to remember that for about 6 months at prep school, talk of shimano gears and gazebo derailleurs (or whatever) was the trendy thing to do, but I didn't pay attention then and god, am I regretful! Anyone got any advice to give me? Ah go on - email address is to the left there...

*this is a sore point. I had it repaired recently, and the new exhaust I had fitted is entirely restricted (i.e. artificially prevented from allowing the bike to go over 30mph). So the bloody thing barely moves! I am embarrassed to be pootling up slight hills at a straining 25, while white van man behind me gets all aggressive in his nice, big, safe, solid moped-squisher. The last thing I need is to make neanderthals in charge of deadly weapons Really Pissed Off...

Oh, tossing wankstules. How could Italy dick it up to such an extent to lose to the mighty Hrvatska? This World Cup is proving full of minor surprises, with Italy, France, Argentina and Portugal all having lost matches already.

As a result, I am in an annoyed mood, and if I had my stereo on, I would be listening to Le Tigre. Whose album, Feminist Sweepstakes, I bought today, along with Storytelling. My riot grrl education, started in 1992 and put on hold as I became a MAN, is entering a new phase...

The singular Laura Llew manages to write wonderful blog entries every day. How on earth does she do that? On top of her natural charm and erudition, she also has one big advantage over unemployed layabouts like me (though she may not see it quite like I do). She INTERACTS with people, mostly her customers, and the essential idiocy and predictable unpredictability of the general public provides a rich seam of humour and observation. Lucky Llew :-)

So I need a job! Anyone got any to offer me? I'm very clean...

I wanted to make a brief mention of my beloved football club, Wimbledon FC. As you may know (unless you're a Septic, and you all are, it seems :-)), Wimbledon's owners and board have been given permission to move the club lock, stock and barrel to Milton Keynes. Which is, I'm sure, a delightful place, but it is also 70 miles from Wimbledon. Again, our American cousins have seen this kind of thing with football and baseball franchises, but in Britain, this has never been allowed to happen previously.

It has caused quite an uproar, unsurprisingly, and would, to all intents and purposes, destroy Wimbledon Football Club as an entity. There is very little chance of overturning the board's decision, but the Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association is doing everything it can to fight the decision. This includes forming a new club, AFC Wimbledon. The details of the current campaign can be found here, and I would encourage anyone with an interest in football on a community level to go and have a look.

I should also add, as it happens, that the views and opinions of WISA do not necessarily reflect my own.

Oh my god. Big Brother produces a televisual moment rivalled only by Robbie Keane's late late equaliser (and subsequent most-shown-in-history TV clip) against Germany the other day. I am on the floor, laughing up my intestines. Hurray for exploitative telly!!

JADE MUST STAY!

I'm having trouble setting Llew as muh blog team-mate. I hope she gets my invitational email today!

It's now the 7th day of the World Cup, and never have I known such a glut of largely high quality football. But it's all on in the morning! By 2.15pm, the last game of each day finishes, and in theory, this should be a signal to get on with life's mundanities. But of course, by that point I'm demotivated and apathetic, having sat in bed watching nigh on 5 hours of footie by that point. Sigh.

(What a crap thing to moan about. It's football! It makes me happy! Get off your arse, Casarotto!)

Few blog-worthy anecdotes seem to be happening to me, now that I need them to. Further progress made in relations-with-ex (seen here with me a couple of years ago) last night - I now just need to get the picture of her and new boyf out of muh mind, and I'll be sorted :-)

"The Six Guns of Henry the Arse"? Wtf?

I have a feeling this is going to be one of the most derivative, incestuous blogs you're ever likely to see. Links will be already well-thumbed, friends will be the same as everyone else's, and let's face it, muh life experiences are hardly the shock of the new. So, to kick off as I mean to go on, check out Cat and Girl, which I'm sure I picked up off one of m' friends, or metafilter or something. And if you go to this specific strip, there's a cute Belle and Sebastian reference :-)

June 5th. Important (hah!) link to muh LiveJournal, which I guess I'm unlikely to update again. Though you never know, maybe if I feel too shy to write stuff here...

I am so excited that the lovely Allura is helping me with this. How can she transform some dull white-boy meanderings into a fresh and vital source of entertainment and information? Well, i guess she can't, but she can make it look purty.

Today I shall watch The World Cup (very exciting at the moment, as at the time of writing the USA are beating Portugal 3-1. Normally I would loathe and abhor the Great Satan, but a couple of American chums have made such an impression with their passion and humility (yes, I know that sounds patronising, but I mean it sincerely) that I actually really want them to win this one. Anyway, I always support the underdog :-)

Oh. 3-2. Own goal. This is getting a bit predictable...

Anyway - back to the telly!

Well friends, this is entry number one. Simply a hello, how does this work kinda thing, with a wave and a kiss to Laura Llew for her help and general loveliness. It's the 4th of June 2002, and things are by and large well in muh world. Come back and find out more! Maybe!
